This year’s International Legislative Drafting Institute meets June 8-19 at Tulane Law School in New Orleans. After 30+ years, the Institute now has graduates from more than 100 jurisdictions around the globe.

Internationally experienced legislative instructors deliver practical and interactive training designed for legislative drafting staff, members of legislative bodies, and NGO representatives. Participants will enjoy a full-day exchange with staff and members at the Louisiana Legislature.

The curriculum covers a broad array of topics, including plain language drafting and laws governing criminal penalties, the environment, ethics, elections, transparency, artificial intelligence, and more. The Institute is adding two new presentations in 2026: “Law of the Sea” by a faculty member of Tulane’s internationally renowned Maritime Law Center, and crafting laws to remove “orphan” wells that no longer produce but continue to pollute their environs.

Marriott’s Residence Inn offers a favorably discounted daily rate of $119 until May 8. This all-suites hotel in the heart of New Orleans’ Central Business District offers the comforts of home and is just a few blocks’ walk from the French Quarter, the Mississippi River, and Warehouse District attractions such as the World War Two Museum.

Participants get a complimentary copy of the International Legislative Drafting Guidebook and Richard Wydick’s Plain English for Lawyers.
