The Rules for legislative drafting in Portuguese-speaking countries/regions, developed by Lisbon Centre for Research in Public Law is organizing a cycle of workshops on Legislative Drafting with its European consultants, at  Lisbon Law School.

The first workshop took place last March 15 and was given by Professor Dr. Sjoerd Zijlstra (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) on the topic “International standards for Legislative Drafting“.

Professor Dr. Sjoerd Zijlstra talked about the origin of the research project International standards for Legal Drafting in 2013, its methodology and the main challenges it is currently facing. The results of this research project will be presented by the PhD student Catharine Stip.

The research fellow of the Rules for legislative drafting in Portuguese-speaking countries/regions research project, Inês Inverno, was the discussant of this workshop. Other researchers from the Rules for legislative drafting in Portuguese-speaking countries/regions project,  students, legal drafters from the Portuguese Parliament and Government and other legal experts attended the workshop.

The next workshops on Legislative Drafting will take place next April 18th. Professor Dr. Mauro Zamboni (Stockholms Universitet) and Professor Dr. Helen Xanthaki (University College of London and Co-president of the IAL) will talk, respectively, about “Legislative policy and effectiveness: a (small) contribution from legal theory” and “The layered approach”.
