Durham University is hiring three research annotators for the British Academy-funded project on ‘Legislative Quality as a Strategic Component in Legislative Decision-making’. The project analyses the causes of legislative quality focusing on the whole body of European Union legislation. The aim is to develop new methods for measuring legislative quality using natural language processing techniques.

The successful candidates will play a key role in the project by helping to assess the performance of the newly developed methods. More specifically, the successful candidates will identify syntactic and lexical elements of legal sentences that are indicative of legislative quality. These annotations will then be used to assess how well the methods perform.

The deadline for applications is Sunday, 26 May 2024. Applications should include a CV, a letter of motivation, and transcripts of records. Questions can be directed to Moritz Osnabrügge (moritz.osnabruegge@durham.ac.uk).
