The Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda (INCM) is launching Lia, the intelligent research assistant for the Diário da República (Portuguese Official Gazette), which uses generative Artificial Intelligence to provide immediate responses in natural language regarding the legislation available at diariodarepublica.pt.

The launch will take place on 11 February at 16:30 at the National Library of Portugal (BNP), with a live broadcast on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The event will feature a roundtable discussion moderated by Alexandre Évora on the impact of AI on access to legislation, with participants including Manuel Cabugueira (NOVA IMS), Joana Mascarenhas (Vieira de Almeida & Associados), and Manuel Dias (Microsoft Portugal). The closing remarks will be delivered by the Secretary of State for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Paulo Lopes Marcelo.

Lia intuitively answers questions about consolidated legislation, helping citizens understand their rights and obligations. Available 24/7, free of charge and universally accessible, it aims to democratise access to legal information. While useful, it does not replace professional legal advice.
